Last Days of Summer

Ciao!

After a long, hot and adventurous summer in Italy it is rather hard settling back into a cold and rainy UK, however weather forecasters a predicting some warm and sunny weather this week so we are hoping for a few more days of summer before Autumn truly settles in.

During out Italian summer I did plenty of cooking and entertaining and used lots of Extra Virgin Olive Oil - a good 4 Litres to be precise!

Although our home is in beautiful Tuscany we still managed to fit in a fair bit of travelling and during our travels I am constantly collecting new recipe ideas and a good olive oil or aromatic is virtually always required!

So over the forthcoming month Ravagni UK website should have a new addition of recipe ideas to help you all know exactly how to use the many different Extra Virgin Olive Oils that Ravagni UK sell, in particular the Aromatic Olive Oils.

Watch this space!!

Salute!

Ciao!

With the summer holidays fast approaching we are all thoroughly looking forward to heading back to our beloved Italia!

On Saturday, July 4th, we had a stand at the Seale and Sand Show in Surrey. The day went well and the weather was sunny and warm. The most popular Extra Virgin Olive Oils that were sold on the day were Garlic, Orange, Rosemary and Black Truffle. Mushroom Paste was very popular also! Raphaelle-Rose and Louis helped out. Their favourite job is to finish off any left over ciabatta bread and dip them in the remaining olive oils at the end of the day - they just can't decide which Olive Oil is their favourite - so they have to keep checking! They take their job of 'Olive Oil Tasters' very seriously! Having said that, our son definately has a thing for Truffle!

Whilst on the topic of Olive Oil Tasting, don't forget to buy the August Edition of Taste Italia Magazine when Ravagni Extra Virgin Novello Olive Oil, harvested in 2008, will be put to the taste test!

The Bartolomei Family of Campalla

The Antico Frantoio company is directed by Giacomo Bartolomei who is continuing the oil mill tradition to produce Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The Bartolomei Family of Campalla has been running the oil mill since the second half of the eighteenth century, and the mill itself has been documented in existence since 1421.
The oil mill is situated in the Upper Tiber Valley, near the beautiful town of Anghiari on the road to Caprese Michelangelo, birthplace of Michelangelo. Since 1421 the name Ravagni can be found in the record offices in both Anghiari and Florence. It is possible that the old mill itself predates this, and it's position may indicate a link with the nearby church Micciano.
The olive oil produced is greenish gold in colour and smells fragrant with strong olive overtones, quiet intense in nature. When freshly made, there is a slightly bitter flavour, but as the oil matures this mellows.
